About
Saphore Projects develops games and interactive work where research, reconstruction and physical systems become part of how the player understands a place.
Research made playable.
The studio focuses on projects where historical material is not simply decoration. Maps, buildings, documents, machines and procedures are studied as systems that can be reconstructed, tested and turned into gameplay.
Current work ranges from Hertford around 1600 to early twentieth-century railway signalling, with an emphasis on environments and mechanisms that reward observation rather than exposition.
Build from evidence. Design for use.
Historical sources inform the work, but the goal is not to reproduce an archive on screen. The useful question is what a player can see, operate, infer or misunderstand inside the finished experience.
Readable evidence
Clues, mechanisms and spatial relationships should be visible enough to reason about.
Material systems
Buildings, maps, machinery and interfaces are treated as things with structure and behaviour.
Player responsibility
Interaction should preserve meaningful judgement rather than automate the interesting part away.
Current projects
Hertford is an investigative historical game and digital reconstruction centred on Hertford around 1600.
Signal Bobby is a railway operations game about mechanical signalling, interlocking and the consequences of the player’s own decisions.
